Who we are
Giuseppe Cataldo's culinary journey began in the sun-drenched hills of Calabria, Italy, where he spent his childhood surrounded by the aromas of his nonna's kitchen. As a young boy, Giuseppe eagerly absorbed the secrets of traditional Calabrian cooking, learning to craft homemade pasta, slow-simmer rich tomato sauces, and perfectly balance the region's famous spicy peperoncino.
At the age of 14, Giuseppe and his family embarked on a new adventure, moving to Elkhart, Indiana. Though far from his beloved Calabria, Giuseppe carried with him the flavors and techniques of his homeland. He dreamed of one day sharing the authentic tastes of southern Italy with his new community.
Years later, that dream has become a reality with Giuseppe's Traveling Trattoria, now run by his son Sasha Cataldo. This unique food truck brings the heart and soul of Calabrian cuisine to the streets of Elkhart and beyond. Sasha has embraced his father's culinary legacy, continuing to serve dishes that pay homage to his grandmother's recipes while adding his own creative twists.
The truck's menu features a mouthwatering array of Italian specialties. Their signature sausage sandwiches are a local favorite, made with homemade Calabrian-style sausages seasoned with fennel and chili flakes, served on crusty ciabatta rolls. Pasta dishes like orecchiette with broccoli rabe and spicy 'nduja sauce showcase the bold flavors of southern Italy. Sasha has also expanded the sandwich offerings, creating unique combinations that blend traditional Italian ingredients with modern flair.
Every dish served from Giuseppe's Traveling Trattoria is a tribute to the rich culinary traditions of Calabria, passed down through generations and now shared with the community of Elkhart. With each meal, Sasha invites his customers to experience the warmth and passion of Italian home cooking, just as his father remembers it from his childhood kitchen in Calabria.
